The PTC works with a network of organisations who provide training for areas in which the PTC is not active. We also partner with organisations that don’t provide training themselves, but act as gateways and signposts to resources useful to those seeking training and development.
Association of Chief Executives of Voluntary Organisations (ACEVO)
ACEVO works with a large network of leaders to inspire and support civil society leaders by providing connections, advocacy and skills.
Association for Cultural Enterprises (ACE)
Established in 1978, ACE is the only not-for-profit organisation run by and for cultural and heritage trading professionals. ACE helps museums, galleries and cultural heritage organisations across the UK to maximise their commercial potential, by sharing best practices and fostering links with other bodies in the sector.
This is achieved through a programme of training and networking opportunities, events, study days, an AGM, and an intensive 2-day annual convention which offers workshops, seminars, presentations and a trade show as well as the Association’s ‘Best Product’ awards.
Association of Freelance Editors, Proofreaders and Indexers of Ireland (AFEPI)
The Association of Freelance Editors, Proofreaders and Indexers of Ireland (AFEPI Ireland) is a professional organisation for publishing and editorial freelancers in Ireland. It fosters high standards in editing, proofreading and indexing, promotes the interests of its members and helps to match publishers, authors, indie authors, businesses and public bodies with suitable editorial freelancers.
Association of Learned and Professional Society Publishers (ALPSP)
ALPSP provides a full and varied series of events and training including seminars, webinars, training courses and the ALPSP Conference. They help members keep up-to-date on the skills and knowledge required to be successful in the scholarly publishing sector.
ALPSP training is devised and delivered by publishers for publishers with direction from their industry Training Committee. They help organisations develop skilled, informed and motivated staff who are better able to deal with the rapidly changing landscape of scholarly and professional publishing.
Equality in Publishing (EQUIP)
Equality In Publishing has been established to promote equality across UK publishing, bookselling and agenting, by driving forward change and increasing access to opportunities within the industry. EQUIP is hosted and funded by the PA and the IPG and operates on two levels; through the Publishing Equalities Charter and EQUIP network.
Independent Publishers Guild (IPG)
The IPG actively participates in the governance of the PTC and as Trustees, are pleased to acknowledge the value of the training provided. We wish to encourage members to make use of its various services and trainees who have completed PTC courses have reaped benefits at their workplace.
Publishing is a great business for companies to be in—but also a challenging one. Independent publishers’ creativity, enthusiasm and contribution to the vibrant UK publishing industry should be celebrated and encouraged, and that’s exactly what the IPG sets out to do.
The IPG helps publishers to do better business and become part of a real community — somewhere they can find advice, benefits and information. They give independent companies the support they need to get the most out of publishing and keep their businesses growing.
International Publishers Association (IPA)
The International Publishers Association (IPA) is based in Geneva, Switzerland, and represents publishers and publishing associations worldwide. In 2022, it is setting up the IPA Academy to support national publishers associations and their members. The IPA Academy will offer online skills development and capacity-building resources, including a range of resources from members and partners: live-streamed, recorded training; best practices and case studies; and industry reports.
Founded in 1991, the Irish Writers Centre is the national resource centre for Irish literature. Its mission is to support and promote writers atall stages of their development. The centre offers a diverse programme of writing courses and workshops led by established writers across a range of genres, including memoir, poetry, playwriting, short-stories and the novel.
LDN Apprenticeships helps ambitious and talented people to accelerate their career and secure their future in the world’s most exciting industries. We work with industry to design apprenticeships & traineeships that solve workforce problems. Providing opportunity and security for apprentices as well as introducing exciting new talent into businesses nationwide.
Publishing Ireland is a membership organisation representing book publishers throughout Ireland. Established in 1970, now with over 40 members, it is the only all-island network for trade, training and development representing Ireland in publishing. The organisation’s aim is to share expertise, resources and opportunities to foster excellence in Irish publishing. Most of the major publishing houses in Ireland are members, with a mixture of trade, general and academic publishers.
Publishing Ireland offers an extensive training schedule each year (now available digitally). Courses are open to both non-members and members are a great way to develop publishing skills.
The organisation also represents the industry’s interests to the Irish Government and other bodies including the Federation of European Publishers and the International Publishers Association.
Publishing Ireland is funded through membership fees and support, and specific project funding from the Irish Copyright Licensing Agency, the Department of Culture, Heritage and the Gaeltacht, the Arts Council and the Arts Council of Northern Ireland.
Established in 1957, the Society of Indexers promotes the nature, quality and profession of indexing. It is the only autonomous professional body for indexers in the UK and Ireland.
Established in 1996, The Literary Consultancy is the first editorial consultancy of its kind, offering professional feedback to writers at all levels through a manuscript assistance service.
The Printing Charity is proud of its heritage and since 1827 has been supporting people of all ages working in printing, paper, packaging, and publishing. It meets the needs of those it helps through practical and emotional support, two sheltered home schemes for people who have retired from the sector, and initiatives supporting sector-specific training for young rising stars. The Publishers Association (PA)
The Publishers Association is the leading representative voice for books, journal, audio and electronic publishers in the UK. They have over 100 companies in membership who publish academic journals, text books for higher, secondary and primary education, fiction, non-fiction, children’s and learning resources. The Publishers Association role is to support publishers in their political, media and industry stakeholder communications.
The Society of Young Publishers
Established in 1949, the Society of Young Publishers (SYP) is open to anyone, of any age,interested in publishing or a related trade – or who is hoping to be soon. Run by a team of dedicated volunteers, their aim is to assist, inform and encourage anyone trying to break into the industry or progress within it.
